Firefox, Thunderbird and Gaim Hanging for File Dialogs

Posted on September 15, 2008 By XceptN No Comments on Firefox, Thunderbird and Gaim Hanging for File Dialogs

I have Firefox 1.5.0.1, Thunderbird 1.5, and gaim-1.5.0-12.el4 on RHEL
4 AS on x86. All of those was hanging when a file dialog was involved
and the file dialog was never been displayed.

The RHEL4 Update 3
provided gnome-vfs2-2.8.2-8.2.. This was experiencing the problem,
force upgrading to gnome-vfs2-2.10.0-5 fixed it

Ooops .. That was fine until I rebooted by laptop, where with the
nodeps installed gnome-vfs2-2.10.0-5 the runlevel 5 X logon does not
display and hangs forever 🙁

The update broke the GDM. Therefore I need to have a gnome-vfs2 that works properly in my config and does not break gdm.

Instead of gnome-vfs2-2.8.2-8.2 I tried with Fedora Core 3’s
gnome-vfs2-2.8.2-8 (requiring howl-0.9.6-6 and howl-libs-0.9.6-6).
Although it does not break GDM, it does not help either… This is
getting really dirty…

Oook .. This was about the
/dev/floppy entry under /etc/fstab.
On the laptop I did not have any floppy and the gnome-vfs2 is not failsafe for non existing device.
Removing the line solved all the problem.
